Uniquely VV What sets Vida Verde Apart? 1. 100% Free: We are the only outdoor education program we know of that offers 100% of its programs for free, exclusively for students who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity. We believe that all children should have access to environmental outdoor education, regardless of their economic situation, and we are here to help make that a reality. 2. Small group size: Vida Verde serves one class at a time (up to 30 students, their teacher and chaperone). This means lots of individual attention for each child, and it allows for a highly structured and streamlined 3 days at camp. Our ratio of instructors to students at camp is 1:7 3. Biodiesel vans: Vida Verde puts its teaching into practice by having sustainable transportation for its programs. Students are transported to the ocean, the redwood forest, and a local farm in our amazing 15-passenger Biodiesel vans. Both vans run on Biodiesel, which is made from used cooking oil! That’s right, no gasoline! These bright and distinctive vans are fun for the students and are also an important teaching tool. 4. Qualified Staff: Vida Verde is proud of its experienced and mission-driven instructor team. The incredible people that work here come with years of experience as campers, camp counselors and directors, environmental educators, former classroom teachers, and a passion for making a difference. Instructors come to us after completing an internship elsewhere, and often before becoming a director at another program or starting their own non-profit. 5. Teepees: At Vida Verde, the students camp out in our magnificent Sioux-style teepees in a large meadow. Each teepee can sleep up to 15 students, and stays dry and safe, even in a rainstorm.
6. Goats: Have you ever milked a goat?! Every student gets to
squeeze a teat and make the milk come out, before their eyes, then
make fresh cheese and eat it! We have 4 goats: “The Mrs.” and
“Maestra” are our milking goats, and “Cricket” and “Ronnie” are our
special pygmy angora (“pygora”) goats, which we have for their
fibers.
